Tuberculous otitis media (TOM) is a rare extrapulmonary tuberculosis infection. TOM can lead to severe sensorineural deafness
and in cases of binaural sensorineural deafness
cochlear implantation is considered. However
TOM patients may suffer from middle ear granulation hyperplasia
unclear anatomical marks
difficult to identify cochlear window
and even cochlear ossification
which bring great challenges to cochlear implant surgery. This paper reports a case of TOM with binaural total deafness treated in our department for phase I difficult cochlear implantation.
