Through case interviews with 12 mothers of hearing-impaired children
we find that families of hearing-impaired children shrink inward and gradually hide in urban society because they are busy with their children’s treatment
rehabilitation and livelihood
as well as being limited to a stigmatized social environment. Therefore
the families of hearing-impaired children have gradually become a voicesless group. To this end
for the families of hearing-impaired children
the stigma environment should be gradually eliminated and families should be brought to the forefront of society. Hearing-impaired children and their families should be allowed to express their demands. The government and society need to "listen" to their voices
improve the social support system
enhance family resilience
and promote social integration.
