Quality of Life Assessment of Children with Cochlear Implants in Shanghai: A Retrospective Analysis Based on the Nijmegen Scale
To understand the quality of life and its influencing factors among children with cochlear implants in Shanghai.
Methods
2
A survey was conducted among parents of 323 hearing-impaired children under 18 years old who underwent cochlear implant (CI) between 2005 and 2023
using a general condition questionnaire and the Nijmegen Cochlear Implant Questionnaire (NCIQ) pediatric version.
Results
2
(1) The quality of li
fe of children with CI was significantly improved (total scale 72.69±13.36)
but they faced significant challenges in the dimensions of social communication and self-confidence. (2) The total scale and dimension scores of children under different rehabilitation education settings were statistically significant (
P
=0.000
<
0.01)
and the quality of life of children attending regular schools after rehabilitation was significantly higher than that of children in the rehabilitation stage and those attending special schools. (3) The implantation scheme was statistically significant in the total scale (
P
=0.001
<
0.01) and dimension scores (
P
<
0.05)
with children receiving SiBCI (simultaneous bilateral cochlear implant) having the highest quality of life scores.
Conclusion
2
In the future
attention should be paid to family-centered personalized support
building an ecological support system that integrates medical care
rehabilitation
and education
creating an inclusive learning environment
and promoting the social integration of children with CI.
