China Scientific Journal of Hearing and Speech Rehabilitation is a national academic journal supervised by China Disabled Persons’ Federation and sponsored by China Rehabilitation Research Center for Hearing and Speech Impairment. Adhering to the mission of "strengthening academic research and promoting scientific achievements," the journal focuses on 11 key disciplines and professional fields, including hearing and speech rehabilitation, otology, audiology, linguistics, speech pathology, psychology, preschool education and special education, child health and behavioral development, hearing health and policy research, disability prevention, and modern technology applications. The journal fosters academic research and facilitates the application of scientific findings, while highlighting field-wide advances. Coverage includes industry trends, frontier technologies, innovations in rehabilitation philosophy, practical skill development, and new hearing assistive devices. Established in November 2003, the journal is published bimonthly in a large 16-mo format with 112 pages per issue. Its domestic serial number is CN 11-5138/R, and its international standard serial number is ISSN 1672-4933.

I. Requirements for Manuscripts

1. This journal adopts a double-blind peer review system. Authors are required to submit a separate page containing the Chinese and English title of the manuscript, author names, and affiliation information (including postal code, mailing address, email address, telephone number, etc.). The title, main text, abstract, figures, tables, and references (photocopies are not accepted) should be submitted together.

2. Manuscript: Manuscripts should be scientific and logical, with clear arguments and complete data. Statistical analysis should be performed when necessary. The length should not exceed 6000 Chinese characters for original articles and reviews, 2000 Chinese characters for experience exchange articles, and 1000 Chinese characters for case reports.

3. Title: The title should be concise and clearly reflect the content of the article. Both Chinese and English titles should not exceed 20 characters.

4. Authors: Author names should be listed in order beneath the title, with no more than eight authors. The author order must be determined at the time of submission and cannot be changed thereafter. Affiliation information (institution name, city, postal code), author biography (name, educational background, professional title, research direction), and corresponding author’s name and email should be provided in the footnote at the lower left of the same page. Names and affiliations of foreign authors should be written in their native language.

In English manuscripts, author names should be followed directly by the English name of the institution and postal code. If authors belong to different institutions, a superscript number should be added to the name of the second author, and the corresponding institutions should be listed in order according to author sequence. Authorship must be confirmed before publication; the journal assumes no responsibility for disputes regarding authorship.

5. Research Articles: Research articles should include a bilingual abstract of approximately 300 characters, covering four parts: objective, methods, results, and conclusion. The methods section should be specific, and the results should present key data. The abstract should be written in the third person.

6. Keywords: Original research articles should be assigned 2–5 keywords. Keywords should reflect the main topics of the study and discussion. Whenever possible, terms should be selected from the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) in the latest edition of Index Medicus edited by the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

7. Medical Terminology: Medical terminology should follow the Medical Terminology approved and published by the National Committee for the Review and Approval of Natural Science Terms, as well as terminology in related disciplines. For terms not yet officially standardized, the English-Chinese Medical Dictionary published by People’s Medical Publishing House should be used. Drug names in Chinese should use their chemical names; trade names may be added when necessary.

8. Figures and Tables: Each figure and table should be marked at the corresponding position in the text, numbered in sequence, and titled as Figure or Table accordingly. Photographs must have good clarity and contrast. Tables should use a three-line format, and all data in tables must be accurate and consistent with the text.

9. Units of Measurement: Units should follow the Legal Units of Measurement of the People’s Republic of China issued by the State Council and be expressed using standard unit symbols. In unit symbols, no more than one slash (/) should be used to indicate division; negative exponential notation is recommended instead, e.g., ng/kg/d should be written as ng·kg⁻¹·d⁻¹. For human pharmacokinetic concentration measurements, as with other clinical test values, the liter (L) should be used as the base unit rather than mL or dL. The unit for blood pressure measurement has been restored to “mm Hg,” but the conversion factor to kPa should be indicated at first mention. Symbols for quantities should be written in italics.

10. Numbers: Numbers should follow the Provisional Regulations on the Use of Numbers in Publications. Centuries, decades, years, months, dates, times, and all counting and measurement values should use Arabic numerals. Years should not be abbreviated; for example, 1996 should not be written as ’96. When numbers have more than four digits before or after the decimal point, a three-digit grouping system should be used, e.g., 1309.4765 should be written as 1 309.476 5. However, this grouping rule does not apply to years, page numbers, military unit numbers, instrument models, or standard numbers. For percentages with ranges or deviations, the percent sign must be repeated, e.g., 5%–9% cannot be written as 5–9%. For multiplied dimensional values such as 3 cm × 4 cm × 5 cm, it must not be written as 3 × 4 × 5 cm³.

11. Abbreviations: Abbreviations should be used sparingly in the text. When necessary, the full term should be written out at its first occurrence, followed by the Chinese abbreviation or the English full term and its abbreviation in parentheses, with a comma separating the latter two (e.g., if the abbreviation is widely recognized, the English full term may be omitted). Abbreviations should not be split across lines.

12. Statistical Symbols: Statistical symbols should be written in accordance with the national standard GB 3358-82 Statistical Terms and Symbols. Common symbols are as follows:
① The sample arithmetic mean is represented by the lowercase italic letter x̄ (median is still M);
② Standard deviation is represented by the lowercase italic letter s;
③ t-test uses lowercase italic t;
④ F-test uses uppercase italic F;
⑤ Chi-square test uses Greek lowercase italic χ²;
⑥ Correlation coefficient uses lowercase italic r;
⑦ Degrees of freedom uses Greek lowercase μ (nu);
⑧ Probability uses uppercase italic P.
All the above symbols should be written in italics.

13. References: References should preferably cite journal articles from the most recent five years, with fewer book references. References are limited to formally published materials such as publications and patents. The number of references should not exceed 35 for review articles and 25 for original research articles. References should be numbered in the order of first appearance in the text, in accordance with national standard GB 7714-87, and listed at the end of the paper. Citations in the text should be indicated by Arabic numerals in square brackets as superscripts.

The format of references is as follows:

If the paper is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, or by a provincial or ministerial-level key research project, has received a scientific and technological achievement award at the corresponding level, or is otherwise of significant importance, this should be indicated in a footnote on the first page of the manuscript, e.g., “Foundation Project: Supported by ×× Foundation (Project No. ××××).”

15. Authors should upload a letter of introduction from their institution and a copyright transfer agreement in accordance with the submission requirements. The letter of introduction should state that the manuscript is not under simultaneous submission elsewhere, does not involve confidential information, and has no authorship disputes. Authors bear full responsibility for the content of their manuscripts, and submitted manuscripts will not be returned. The journal reserves the right to make textual revisions and abridgements to submitted manuscripts.
