Hearing loss has profound emotional impacts on children and their families
with many families undergoing a complex and prolonged grief process following a child's diagnosis. Grief is not only an emotional response but also a psychological adaptation process
where parents may experience the five stages proposed by Kübler-Ross: denial
anger
bargaining
depression
and acceptance. Person-centered hearing counseling
by addressing the emotional needs of family members and providing personalized support
effectively facilitates emotional adjustment and psychological recovery for families. This paper examines how person-centered hearing counseling
combined with the five stages of grief model
can help parents gradually adapt to their child's hearing loss
support family recovery
and create a better developmental environment for children with hearing loss.
